The day before Earth Hour 2011 I spent the best day in ages with my love at the zoo. Well, not only that, I actually started the day with sweating my butt off during Bikram Yoga and after that enjoyed a delicious lunch in the sun, also with my love.
I’m actually not that much of a fan of the zoo. I think it’s sad, seeing those animals in cages, some clearly frustrated about their limited space. But it brought me so much joy today! And since I can’t remember the last time I went to a zoo, and getting on a plane to go on a safari with loads of other tourists is more damaging to the world, it’s completely OK to have enjoyed myself immensely.
Unlike many who were carrying around these gigantic lenses (one guy was walking around with so much gear and two tripods I thought he thought he was actually in the jungle!) I just tried to capture all the beautiful animals with my good old point-and-shoot Sony cybershot. It was fun although sometimes I wished I did have my Nikon with me, like when the cute baby polar bear was playing with his mother. Oh well, next time. I’m just glad I got to see all the beautiful, amazing, weird and scary creatures nature has given us! And talking of nature: I’m not saying you have to turn off your lights tomorrow, but just remember to take care of our earth a little bit. Thanks.
